I had the opportunity of attending the auction and it was pretty media packed. The flag hit a million quickly, then stalled and the bidding was continued between two phone bidders. Seeing the flag close up its not in the best shape and you can see what appears to be blood stains. Met a guy there who claimed that theres another Custer flag in private hands but he did not elaborate. This flag was found under the body of Private Foley by Sgt. Culbertson one of the burial party. All told it was a enjoyable afternoon on a day off, learrned a ton about the flag. The real eye opener was Robert Kennedys copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln went for 3.3 mil. 1.9 mil for the Custer flag was a bargain but still a great price for a flag. P.S. the Detroit Museum that sold the flag will use the money to buy indian art.
