Of interest is the procedure I observed aboard a British Naval Ice Breaker in St. Thomas, USVI, where they stopped over on their way home from an Antarctic deployment.

We attended a reception on the fantail at the time of evening colors. Following the honors with rifles, bugles, et al, the national flag was lowered without the formal ceremony we know. Collecting the flag, the Navy Tar receiving the flag, just gathered it into a haphazard bundle and carted it off below decks!

Quite a surprise seeing our Mother nations method which is quite in contrast with our formal folding.
