o.r. report, of brig,gen,D.M.frost commanding 7th and 9th divisions,missouri state guard. with the troops under my command,consisting of guibors battery of 4 guns,and capt,emmett, saint louis battery, macdonalds of 3 guns,and what is known as mcbrides division,comprising some 500 infantry and 120 cavalry,at about 10 oclock on friday morning i was ordered to form my infantry in line of battle on a hill to the left of the state road,on sugar creek,my artillery exchanged a heavy fire with the enemy, during which time my infantry and cavalry dismounted, acted as a supporting force,the enemys batterys being silenced or abandoned, i recieved orders to move my command to the support of colonel,littles brigade,that was being heavily pressed on the right of his line,i advanced my command and relieved his troops on the right,which formed in my rear,giving and recieving heavy fire,i was ordered to move my command to the left to attack the enemys position at elkhorn tavern, and with littles, brigade charged upon that position,which was executed under heavy fire, sweeping the enemy before it,halting only after driving them back upon the plain and under the protection of what seemed their last batteries ,night here closed upon the scene and the men slept upon their arms on the enemys feild ,.during this last advance at elkhorn tavern,a battery of artillery,and some standards,[one of which,that of the douglas dragoons,]fell into the hands of my command. and also large quantity of stores,, michael,...
