Re: for Greg - 17th Tennessee Inf Reg Flag

Steve,

The actual Hardee flag of the 17th/23rd Tennessee Infantry that they used in later 1863 resides in the Museum of the Confederacy's collections. It was one of two Hardee flags taken at Petersburg, VA in June 1864 when Bushrod Johnson's Brigade fought there after having gone east with Longstreet's Corps. The other Hardee flag taken was that of the 25th/44th Tennessee, which is sadly missing today.

The 17th/23rd flag is unmarked by unit designation or battle honors.

There is an earlier 1863 Hardee for the 17th Tennessee with battle honors and a crossed cannon on it that is in the collections of the Tennessee State Museum.
