All
The variant in size are many, Howard stated “basically 48” square”. None of the flags agree with the proposed 48x48”. I’d say 45x45” would fall in that category as would 46-1/2” x 49” or any other measurement that was in inches off of the 48” square. With the number of individuals that put the flags together, the variant width of a bolt of bunting played a role in the overall size of the finished project as did the size of the stars, border, etc.. Some of the fields of these flag are pieced together with scrap patches, which would also count for the overall size deference’s. 100 or so of the flags in the first issue of the 3rd bunting ANV, the 2nd NC was one size while the next regiments was another, off by inches, and down the line, but still be basically 48” square. To list each individual size of the flags would be a daunting task on limited web space, but if someone wishes to take it on, I think the group would take your submission into consideration for addition.
Some basic information on the flags are not mentioned on the site to save off those wishing to use trickery and sell flags as originals.
Happy Trails!
