The 15th Ala. flag in the ADHA is an Army of Northern Virginia 3rd variant silk issue. These flags were made by ladies' sewing circles in Richmond in the fall of 1861. These particular variants had yellow silk borders and 12 white silk stars (no star at the crossing point of the bars). The field was probably a shade of pink rather than red. In the fall of 1861 in Richmond, VA, red silk was not a primary dress color, so, when the army Quartermaster (Capt. Colin Selph) went to purchase the silk necessary to make the 120 flags that the ANV (known at that time as the Confederate Army of the Potomac) needed, there simply wasn't enough. Capt. Selph improvised and purchased all of the "reddish" colored silk he could lay hands on. According to noted flag researcher Howard Madeus, these flags ranged in color from magenta to pale pink with most of them being a "rose" color. The 15th Ala. recieved this flag most likely in December of 1861 and carried it until the battle at Cedar Mountain (Aug. of 1862) when it was retired and sent home by Col. A. A. Lowther. My G-g-grandfather was a Private in Co. E of the 15th Ala, btw.
