I wrote that wrong. Wallace was sent a piece after Ellsworth's death because of their mutual zouave connections and friendship.

I doubt the ladies tore up the Marshall House flag at all - it was far more likely that the capturing Federals did it. Again, the vast majority of the flag is in the NYSMM today and it is quite large.
