I am researching the history of the flag of the Headquarters of the Division of the Mississippi carried by William T Sherman during his march to the sea. I recently visited the Serman House in Lancaster, Ohio, Sherman's birth place, and among other things (they have a nice collection of civil War artifacts for a privately funded museum) they have a flag he used during this campaign in a field camp display. I have read extensively re Sherman and have never heard of any mention of this flag. Does anyone know any details of this flag or history of it or possibly have a source for photos as they do not allow cameras in the museum. Thanks in advance.
