Re: Patrick Hardee's/Cleburne's Blue Flag - more i

There is some debate in Arkansas circles about another Blue flag of Patrick Cleburnes. It was presented to him at Memphis, Tenn. while he was colonel of the 1st Arkansas State troops, which became the 15th Arkansas Volunteers. The presentation ceremony was well recorded in the newspapers of the day, but the description of the flag is somewhat clouded. It is believed by some that this "Blue flag" was in fact a Blue flag with the 1836 Arkansas State seal in its center, in the common manner of State flags of the day. There was a second flag presented to one of his companies at the same time while was known as the "Jefferson Guards" and that "Jefferson Guards" flag is still in existance today and on display athe the Jefferson County, Ark Historical Museum.

Now while Arkansas at that time has no "official" State flag, the State seal of other states was commonly used in this manner such as Louisiana. If anyone has any insight I would be happy to entertain those thoughts.
