25th Tenn lost colors at Murfreesboro

Gregg, I think the 25th Tenn lost their "colors" at Murfreesboro. OR 20, Series 1, Page 879.

"25th Tenn lost two officers, color-bearer and colors."

I have the 27th Mississippi capturing the 21st Ohio colors. "One entire company, officers and colors were posted in a log house near the battery in front of the 29th Miss. The 27th Miss captured the company, 29th Miss the battery."

OR 20, Series 1, Page 764

Seems Wood's brigade captured many colors were BG.Sill was killed. The 3rd Confederate reported capturing colors there. (I believe the 24th Wisconsin) might have lost a flag or two. They broke first and were raw and new. The 75th Illinois was captured in mass by Colonel Cox's Cavalry regiment. Most did escape later, flags??

This was interesting...

"These comprise but a small portion of the number of flags captured. Very difficult to get officers to turn in the flags." "Cleburne turned in some of his." Cleburne reported he turned in a "small fraction" of colors captured. Seems like I will have to work awhile on Murfreesboro and find out what flags and what Union regiments lost colors.

Well Gregg, let me know what you think about the 25th Tenn.

Have a good day,

Shawn Prouty
