A period Philadelphia newspaper ran an article not long after Rappahannock Station listing the several flags lost there - only NC and LA units were involved in the two brigades on the north bank of the river. This article gave vivid descriptions of the flags taken - all were ANV Richmond Depot flags.

The ANV did not start getting Second nationals (due to a wool bunting shortage in the summer of 1863) until the late Fall as far as we have been able to tell and the flag that Gorgas had (and you) was not made at that depot for their Second Nationals have a tell-tale characteristic that this flag does not have.
