Jim, here is a Florida historical marker that will help explain the demise of L. G. Pyles' mother:

He was orphaned because of this incident and even though he had three sisters (Rebecca Harn, Jane Tucker and Frances S. Hope) in the area, he was returned to Newnansville, Alachua Co., FL where he was raised by his eldest brother, Gen. S. R. Pyles (Jr.). Sadly, when he died in Archer, FL, there was no male sibling alive to ensure that he received a grave marker. Someday, someone should get one place in the old Newnansville Methodist Cemetery just outside the town of Alachua with a Confederate marker indicating he was in the Civil War and rose to the rank of full Colonel. There are no (known) direct descendants to ensure that.
