The "Simpson Mounted Rangers" (Captain N. R. Leigh) was Company "C" of the 3rd Florida Cavalry Battalion, while the "Bragg Mounted Rangers" (Captain J. B. Vaughn) served as Company "B". The battalion went of of existence in September 1863, but I don't see Jones on roll with the 15th Confederate Cavalry. If he died while away from his command, the roll would not contain information as to what happened to him. The facts about his death would have been unknown to the company clerk.
