Lori --

This information is incorrect, splicing together different events two years apart. McNeese appears on a casualty list for the Seven Days Battles, June 26-July 1, 1862, but Elmira wasn't open for prisoners of war until the middle of 1864. Sgt. McNeese was captured during the desperate fighting in the 'Mule Shoe' salient, May 12, 1864, Spotsylvania Courthouse VA. He was then taken to Elmira where he died of pneumonia, Mar. 14, 1865.

McNeese served with the Second Florida Regiment and the "Hamilton Blues" in countless battles and campaigns between the summer of 1862 and the date of his capture. We wouldn't want to skip all those notable actions.
