William T. McNeese was indicated as being present at the battle of Gettysburg as the Second Sergeant in Company I, the "Jasper Blues." Captain Moses L. Duncan was absent sick until 24 July 1863 and missed the battle. Some members of Company I in that battle included Second Lieutenant John W. H. Hall, who was wounded on 2 July and captured; First Sergeant Nathaniel B. Walker, who escaped unharmed and was elected Second Lieutenant on 10 August 1863; Fifth Sergeant William McLeod, who was wounded and captured; Second Corporal William Belote, whose right arm was broken on 2 July and was captured; and Third Corporal Washington Williams, who was present. You may have also heard of the infamous Private Lewis T. Powell, who was wounded and captured. Powell, alias Lewis Payne, was one of the Lincoln conspirators. On 14 April 1865, Powell attacked and came close to killing Secretary of State William Seward.
