Gabriel L. Jones, Asst. Surgeon

Gabriel Lee "Gabe" Jones, son of preacher and early temperance lecturer, Dabney P. Jones, was an 1859 graduate of the University of the City of New York, School of Medicine. He was Assistant Surgeon, 19th Georgia regiment in 1861 and 1862, but resigned due to a hernia disabling him from field service. He later served as assistant surgeon in Army of Tennessee hospitals in Atlanta, Macon, and Vineville, Ga. After the war he was a physician in Atlanta and was on the faculty of Atlanta Medical College. At the time of his mother's death in 1874 at his home in Atlanta, he was the only survivor of eleven children. He was dismissed as executor of his mother's estate in 1876 and sometime thereafter he moved to Florida. Prior to 1882 he was apparently a member of the Orange Lodge #36 of freemasons in Apopka, Fla. He may have been a resident of Dunnellon, Fla., in 1906. He is said to have died in Orlando, Fla.

I'd like to document the dates and locations of his birth and death, and find his burial place.
