Re: Gabriel L. Jones, Asst. Surgeon

Jeff,

I'm in Virginia and have no local familiarity. I have looked at online cemetery records and it is possible that G. L. Jones is buried in Old Church Cemetery on the east side of Greenwood Cemetery in Apopka. There is a stone with no dates that indicates that Dr. Jones, CSA is buried there. So that's a possibility.

I afraid I don't know where he died, that's what I'm hoping to get some help with. Based on the little I do have, I'd say he died in Orange County. In the 1880 census he is in Orange County: G. L. Jones, 49, Physician, born Ga. I can't find him in the 1900 census. I've found an article in the Florida Dispatch published in Jacksonsville in 1882 that says Dr. G. L. Jones of Apopka was a vendor of fresh and genuine Bermuda onion seed. The online records for Orange Lodge #36 in Apopka show him as Master in 1882 and 1883. So it looks like he may have died ca. 1883-1900.

George
