Art,

There is no such movement that I am aware of but there should be. I tried two years ago but few people would listen. The day before Roy Barnes introduced that garish rag that now flys over Georgia he ceremonially met with the General Assembly in the old State House in Milledgeville. It was ironic in that it wasn't noted by anyone as also being the anniversary of the secession. Unfortunately, too many Georgian's are ignorant of their history or chose not to see any further back than 1956. The original Georgia state flag, with its distinctive Coat of Arms, the same flag that was raised over Milledgeville when the Ordinance of Secession was signed, the same flag that preceded the military honor guard at Jefferson Davis' inauguration, and the same flag that was carried to the field by the Georgia Militia and other State troops from 1799 to 1879, should be sufficient to honor Georgia's Civil War experience. In my opinion, neither the 1956 flag nor any of the other intervening Jim Crow-era flags are adequate.
