Greg, I have been attempting to prove that the photograph at the Florida Archives website does not show Johnston, but is in fact Crittenden (wearing the shawl), as stated so in the copy shown in the PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR. All the evidence I have collected so far indicates that the photographs were all taken in 1864, months after Johnston had died at Fort Warren. I proved that the statement by a lady named Davis, daughter of George W. Davis, in the Confederate Veteran magazine about her father and Johnston being in the photo was incorrect, after locating Davis' pension file.
Anyway, thank you very much for your input on the Hardcastle article. I would still like to find out the exact date of the article, as it may have been published in the Savannah newspaper some time after the war.
