40TH Ga. Inf. Regt. Soldier?

I am doing research on the 40TH Ala. Inf. Regt. and I have found listed on the microfilmed Compiled Service Records of the 40TH Ala. a listing for a Pvt. W.P. Gober of Company B, 40TH Ala. Inf. Regt. He was admitted as a prisoner to Field Hospital, U.S. 3RD Div., 20TH Corps at Peachtree Creek, Georgia for a gunshot wound on 20 July 1864; died 26 July 1864 and was burried on site.

I am suspicious as to the accuracy of this man's unit information as there are no other records of his service in the 40TH Ala. at all. I did discover in the Broadfoot Roster a listing for a Pvt. William F. Gober of Company G, 40TH Georgia Inf. Regt. and I have determined that the 40TH Ga. Inf. did fight in the Atlanta Campaign as well as the 40TH Ala. and 40TH Miss. Inf. Regts. There is also a William P. Gober listed with Co. D, 40TH Miss. Inf. Regt.

Can anyone check to see if this man may in fact be Pvt. William F. Gober of Co. G, 40TH Georgia Inf. Regt.?

Thank You Very Much,

Henry Seale
