Re: Company E, 14th Georgia Infantry

Jim, I thought I sent this info several days ago, now can't find it in my sent file. Pvt James Stone (no researcher I know of has ever felt he had a middle initial or name). It's been a puzzle to all of us what unit he served in--was it Georgia or Alabama Infantry? James grew up in Forsyth Co, GA-on its 1850 federal census he is listed as the second oldest son of Wiley and Candas Buckner Stone. Wesley (Worley) was the oldest son on it, then comes James, Francis Asbury Stone, and William Pitchford Stone. The youngest William P. was born at Stone Mountain in May 1844, my great gf. In 1860, the parents (Wiley and Candas)
and some of this family are on Milton Co census.

Soon after the 1860, most of them moved to Blount Co, AL--but James we don't know about, he and Wesley were grown up by then. Wesley joined Co. G, 56th Georgia at Union Hill Church on Forsyth-Milton boundary, captured at Vicksburg.

The CWSSS shows a James Stone in Co. C, 14th GA (not Co E)

So two states tho very close are involved in our search, and what a common name to sift in this search. But James was in Blount Co, AL again on 1866 census, married a Harriet
Morris and was in AR by 1870. Soon after William P. enlisted in Co. C, 28th AL in 1862, his older brother Francis went "up river" to its TN encampment and they served together thru it all to NC. Thanks, Bob in OK
