Re: Confederate uniforms
In Response To: Confederate uniforms ()

Kevin,
That's a pretty tall order! I think it's safe to say that the uniforms and equipment of most CSA soldiers depended on several things:
Eastern or Western Theatre...
The ability of the people at home, where the individual companies were formed, to outfit a company....
The different CSA Depots that the unit depended on to replace/furnish equipment...
How successful at using captured equipment/clothing a particular unit might be....
How fast a unit's originally issued clothes/shoes/weapons/etc deteriorated, or was lost through battlefield attrition, capture, or just constant use...
How that, despite CSA regulations, the incredible strain it was on the South, after about 1862, to issue clothing/shoes of any kind, much-less regulation issue.
A few websites that may help:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~laudc/uniforms.htm

http://www.kidport.com/RefLib/UsaHistory/CivilWar/Uniforms.htm

http://www.geocities.com/secondvirginia/viewuniforms.htm

Probably the best site is "The Confederate Infantry Private", at:
http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Bunker/1163/rebsoldier.html
It attempts to accurately give info on the difficulty and variety of equipping a CSA soldier.
