I am also interested in the 22nd Georgia Artillery. I have confusing information concerning my husbands great grandfather's service and also that of his brother in law, William Jasper Herring. My husbands great grandfather was James Freeman Paul. I have a copy of J. F. Paul's muster roll and another researcher has a copy of W. J. Herrings muster roll. The muster roll for J. F. Paul says he appears on the muster roll of 28th Battalion Siege Artillery-Capt. McCarthy's Co. Mercer Artillery- Georgia Volunteers. Yet in J. F. Pauls pension application he ways he enlisted in Albany, Georgia Feb. 1864-Mercer Artillery-22nd Ga. Battalion-Company E. Are these one and the same or did the name change are were both J. F. Paul and W. J. Herring confused.
