As for questions, I suppose I'd like to know everything about that unit's history.

Was it recruited primarily from one area?

Who were its officers?

I had supposed from his naming the captured horse "Burnside", that he must have been in N. Va during some of the period Burnside commanded the Army of the Potomac. Does it appear that the unit was that theater by the end of 1862?

What sort of duties did they have and what campaigns were they a part of?

Were they combined with other units into a Brigade?

Have you found mention of them in the "Offical Records of the War of Rebellion" series?

As you can see, these are pretty basic questions, but he left very scanty record of his war experience, other than a very eloquent statement late in life about its horrors.
