Re: 53rd Reg Georgia Infantry
In Response To: Re: 53rd Reg Georgia Infantry ()

I am working on a history of the 53rd with an expanded roster. I am trying to provide some history on each member of the 53rd. Below is what information I have.

Lord, Christopher Cullon -- Born in Georgia. In the 1860 census (Fayette; 73; 16), C. C. Lord was a 20 year-old farm laborer living with his parents and three sisters in Fayette County. He owned no property. His father, Jordan 49, owned no real estate and no personal value. Married Charlotte Post on December 3, 1860 in Fayette County, Georgia. Enlisted as a private in Company C, 53rd Regiment, Georgia Infantry, May 1, 1862. Died September 24, 1862.

The Confederate Service Record for most individuals of the 53rd whose last name started with "L" does not exist. They must have been lost.

The 53rd Georgia as part of General Paul J. Semmes' brigade arrived late at Sharpsburg, Md (Antietam) and was the northernmost unit during the counterattack through the West Woods and suffered 29% losses. I believe C. C. Lord was mortally wounded there on September 17, 1862.

If you have any other information you would care to share I would be most appreciative.
