Soldiers paroled at Hartwell, Ga. 1865

My gr-gr uncle Cpl. Charles H Lane of Co.D 43rd Georgia was shown to have been captured and paroled at Hartwell, Ga May 18th 1865 with 2 other members of Co.D
I have seen other troops from different commands (and states) also listed as captured and paroled at Hartwell, Ga around the same time.
Anybody have any idea what was going in Hartwell, Ga at that time?
Were these soldiers walking home from Virginia and North Carolina who didn't surrender?

Chris
