Mr. Truitt,

You CANNOT see Missionary Ridge from Ringgold, Georgia.

Many of the Confederate dead were field buried but many were removed in the years after the war. I personally am not aware of all the permutations on remains transfers. The Confederates would have had little or no time in removing a dead soldier from the field that day. Wounded were removed and evacuations were made further south along the railroad so if they died of wounds they may have been buried in a cemetery. Around 1996, a grave of a soldier (unknown if he was Federal or Confederate) was found on Missionary Ridge when a resident was digging a pit for his children's trampoline. The soldier was disinterred and archeology work completed and he was reburied in the Confederate Cemetery beside the UTC campus a couple of years later.
