In the haste and confusion, it seems unlikely that any of the Confederate dead or mortally wounded were removed. Removal or artillery and other military items would have been more urgent matters for soldiers not completely demoralized or caught up in the rout.

Anyone who has built a house on Missionary Ridge knows there's more rock than soil there. Confederates who died along the first line of trenches at the base of the ridge might have gotten something approaching a decent burial.

Others along the western slopes or the crest of the ridge must have been very shallow affairs, small groups of bodies laid beneath a few stones or an overhanging rock or ledge. I doubt seriously that any of these would have been marked like the burial trenches at Shiloh.
