You may be interested in knowing that Horace King actually owned part of the bridge with his white partners - really unheard of at the time. His family (King) lived on the Carroll County side and took the tolls - when Sherman's cavalry attacked the mill, I believe they ransacked King's house. This info is in a new book about Sherman's Horseman, forget the author's name.
