Lynda --

Since this man isn't going to be on a Confederate roster, the Georgia State Archives will be your only reliable source. He appears on the 1864 militia census as T. A. Dodgen, age 46, even though his age as reported on the 1860 census is only 38. Many men reported excessive aging during the war. In January of 1864 Confederate law required service up to age 45, so that may have influenced some age estimates.

Others reported on the 1864 militia census for the 35th Senatorial District (Cobb County) are W. R. Dodgen, age 47; Eli Dodgen, age 44; A. T. Dodgen, age 47; J. L. Dodgen, age 51; J. W. Dodgen, age 17; N. Dodgen, age 16. Some of them had been enrolled in the Georgia State Guards, such as E. W. Dodgen, or the Roswell Battalion, an organization for exempts employed in Roswell manufactories.

Please understand that this was only a census. It doesn't certify any kind of militia service.
