Southern dead in the Battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse were collected by Federal burial parties, then placed in unmarked, shallow trenches. A photographer recorded burial on several Confederates on the Alsop Farm, May 19, 1864. Notes the image included here --
