Re: Behind the scenes assignments during battle ??

William Watson in his Life in the Confederate Army lists the following for his infantry regiment:

“The trains consist of the 10 company waggons, officers’ waggon, staff waggon, quarter-master’s and commissary waggons-in all about 20 waggons, with four or six mules to each.” (Watson, p. 182)

Somewhere I've found that an infantry regiment of 1,000 men were allowed, perhaps, 24 wagons. However, with the roads being so poor, they could not load as much, thus requiring almost 36 wagons to haul all their goods.

With this in mind, would anyone know of the number of clerks assigned an infantry regiment. I know the Adjutant had one as well as the Orderly/1st Sergeant. I assume at least one would have been assigned the Colonel, AQM, & ACS, and perhaps the Hospital Steward.
