Alan, if I had known you were watching the Georgia Board, I would have been more careful. John Driggers full name was John J. S. Driggers. From the inscription on his grave marker.............." In memory of John J. S. Driggers, only son of Samuel H. and Elizabeth Driggers. born April 7, 1841 and killed June 16, 1864 by the explosion of a shell in the trenches near Marietta, Ga." After his enlistment in the Pioneer Guards had expired, he enlisted in the 45th Alabama, Co. C, at Auburn , Alabama, on April 29, 1862. His CSR's show that he was killed near Gilgal Church in Cobb County, Ga. My bad for not being more specific.
FYI, there are 210 marked Confederate graves in Fairview Cemetery in Eufaula, exclusive of the Confederate Cemetery section. There are 86 UDC markers where the only information given is name and CSA, for instance, "L.L. Guerry, CSA". There are 65 Veterans Admin markers. The rest are regular grave markers that mention CSA service in some form or another. The men buried in Fairview range from a Major General, H.D. Clayton, to every rank down to private, two sailors and even a "CSA Secret Service agent" who was 10 years old when the War ended, W. F. Dent (he is mentioned in Confederate Vet Mag).
My project involves obtaining the full name, place and date of birth, place and date of death, and wife's name (if married) and the unit, or units, in which the soldier served. I have been working on the project for about three years and I intend to publish sometime next year.
It may be of interest to learn that I have found several "errors" involving the Veterans Admin markers, including three markers for soldiers not buried in Fairview (one is buried in the Beauvoir Soldiers home Cemetery in Biloxi, MS; one in the Alabama Soldiers home cemetery in Mountain Creek, AL; one is buried in Winslette Chapel cemetery in Houston County, Al.) There are also Vets Admin markers with incorrect information and incorrect soldiers.
