In my quest for locating my gg-uncle, John F. Burk (private, 26th TN, then 1st Confederate Regiment, Georgia Volunteers), I have run into a deadend. His last date on roll is 31 Aug,1863. His regiment fell back from Tullahoma, TN with Bragg prior to Chickamauga. Another source said that if he was no longer on the roll, then chances are he was killed or mortally wounded at Chickamauga. One source referenced Jonesboro, GA as his last location, but based on Pat Cates' book regarding the 1st Conf. Reg. his company (5 were sent) had been transferred from Pensacola to Bragg at Tullahoma.Any suggestions or info on the 1st Conf. Inf. would be apreciated.
How ironic is it that his family never knew what happened to him, even though he grew up 8 miles from the Chickamauga battlefield upon which he may have died.
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.
