The following two bi-monthly reports should have been taken at the end of October and December, 1863.
However, the next muster roll on record for Company I and most of the rest of the regiment, was for the period January/February 29, 1864 at an undisclosed place in Georgia. He was not recorded.
His status should have been stated on either of the two missing muster rolls. Since they have not survived, we will probably never know his fate.
Had he been taken prisoner, we should have seen Federal reports as such in his record. They do not exist. Had he later have applied for a Confederate pension, this record should have shown up. Had he deserted to the enemy, this record should have been recorded.
I see two possibilities remaining, either he died during the later half of 1863 or deserted and went into hiding near his home. And then, as Alan suggests, he may have been discharged.
