Update: A. McKinney 40th GA
In Response To: Re: A. McKinney 40th GA ()

Alan,

Thanks for your help.

A.G. McKinney of Company F 40th Georgia Infantry Regiment appears to be Alexander Gresham McKinney, married Martha Lucivy Gresham on 10 FEB 1859 in Cobb County, GA. Son of Gresham McKinney & Virlinda Chambless. He filed for a penison in Cullman County, AL in 1912, age 79, born in Paulding County, GA. I found him & his family in 1880 Carroll, GA Census. According to info at Find-A-Grave, he died in 1917 and is buried in Cobb County, GA.

The CSA marker for A. McKinney at Oak Hill in Prattville is obviously in error. However, I did finally locate my A. McKinney and his family in the 1880 Randoplh County, GA census. He was born in 1838/39, wife Nancy. I could not match a record to him. They are the only McKinney (McKenney) familiy in 1880 Randolph County that I found. There is an Abraham McKenney there in 1860 who served in the 55th GA Infantry, but he was 56 yrs of age in 1860 and died while in service in 1863. His widow, Winnaford, age 60 in 1860, filed a death claim on him. Abraham & Winnaford are the only McKinney (McKenney) family in Randolph County in 1860.

I still have not located my A. McKinney at age 21 in any 1860 census. Barry
