My great grandfather served in the 13th Infantry, Company B, Serrana Parkman. The Company was composed of men from Meriwether and Troup counties and known as the Meriwether Volunteers. It was formed in July 1861 and his younger brother enlisted at that time. They both survived the war. The 13th fought in western Virginia early on, came back to Savannah to defend the coast and then joined the Army of Northern Virginia in time to participate in some of the Peninsular Campaign battles. They fought in all the major battles in that theater. Serrana enlisted in May 1862. He was wounded at Antietam (Sept '62) and later returned to duty. He was captured and released or escaped at the battle of Cedar Creek VA in October 1864. He surrendered at Appomatox. And yes, he was indeed only my great grandfather. He, his son, and my father all married at an older age or had children late in life. I too would like a copy of the book or specifics on where to find it.
