Makes sense to me. It's so easy to misread a "G" as a "C" on those old stone, although this one is in pretty good shape. But irregardless whether it was an error by me in transcribing, or on the stone, I would bet money you are correct. I wonder if the Sexton's records might give more detrails. Thye have very complete records there, or so I'm told. Those recordsw might be very helpful fior the veterans in the Confederate section, where so little data is given.

I wonder why they buried Gannon with the Yankees. He and a sergeant with the 11th Florida who died on 10 Aug 1864 are buried in the little plot with the Federals, some of whom died in Augusta during the war, and others who died while serving as occupation troops. The 1st row of 6 graves is of Federals who died in the war, and the other three in row 2 with Gannon and the Floridian, and all those in row 3, died after the war.
