A minor point to clarify. Your post indicates the location of Fort Tyler to be in Georgia. It is not. While West Point is inside the Georgia state line, the fort built to protect it is not. If you look at the location of Fort Tyler, you'll see that it stands on Alabama soil. The fort's west wall runs directly along the state line; the rest of the fort is inside Alabama.
