Thanks much for the info.
I have been collecting data on Color Bearers and Guards
for over 20 years now; with an eye to publishing something
on their under-appreciated and often neglected service in
the Confederate Army.
Your ancestor's service was unknown to me. I have added his
name to the list of Colorbearers of the 38th Georgia Inf.
If you can add any further "family lore" to his story; I would
greatly appreciate your sharing it with me.

The Company Flag of the "Milton Guards" survives today in
the collections of the Georgia State Museum in Atlanta. Quite
possibly James held this very flag in his hands.
