In 1911, the widow of Major Spence (Levinia Brett) filed for a Confederate Service Pension in Nassau County, FL. You can download the pension application by going to the Florida State Library and Archives website and clicking on the Florida Memory Project. Then click on Collections and find Confederate pension applications. The file number for the application is A03900. If you have trouble, I can mail you a copy of what I found.
