Mike from Arkansas, The records I have for First Sergeant John M. Waldrop, co. A, 35th Georgia, show that he was born on October 24, 1837 which is a year earlier than what you show. I got this from Henderson's "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia," vol. 3, 1960. Henderson had some mistakes in this roster so your date might be the correct one. Also, your guy appears on the indigent pension roll from 1895-1906 for kidney problems and rheumatism. I did not know that he died in 1910 and was buried in Pineywoods Comm. Cemetery in Haralson County. Thanks for this info. Everthing you ever wanted to know about the 35th Georgia is included in my book, "Red Clay to Richmond: Trail of the 35th Georgia Infantry Regiment," published in 2004 by Angle Valley Press. John M. Waldrop was captured at Petersburg on April 2, 1865 which means that he was almost certainly a member of the ill-fated garrison that defended Fort Gregg on the west side of Petersburg. This was a suicide mission that bought time for Lee's army to escape from Petersburg. The entire Fort Gregg garrison was KIA, WIA and/or captured in action. This dramatic episode is related in my newest book, "The Confederate Alamo: Bloodbath at Petersburg's Fort Gregg on April 2, 8165," [2010, Angle Valley Press] released several months ago. Waldrop is listed on rosters in the back of each of these books.
Info on them is available at www.AngleValleyPress.com or on Amazon.
