Good to hear from you. The family lore has it as being the Burke Sharpshooters flag and I think the book on that unit in the 2nd GA that came out a few years ago makes mention of this. I have not done GA flags stuff for a time since I have been working on the TN flag book.

You are right about the ornate flags from Columbus but I think that the blue-bloods of that city and county had far more money to spend on company colors than the folks from Burke County. Even though they were close to Augusta and their several flag makers, it may have come down to the financial side of things for the flag.

Then again, this could have been the 2nd GA's early war colors too and the family lore was incorrect. I do find it weird, and always have, that this was not more ornate as company flags often, but not always, are.
