Thanks for this information; my ancestor Robert M. Tipton was a Private with Company "D" (Burke County Sharpshooters) he appears to have deserted in 1863 or 64.(1864 Muster rolls list him as "absent without leave,supposed to be a deserter") As he is found in Tennessee in 1864 (married Dickson county May 11,1864). A few years ago a military gravestone was placed on his grave site {Co. D 2 Ga. Inf CSA}.
