Re: Cicero H. Taylor 1st GA Inf. US

Roy --

You're right that Cicero Taylor lived in Pickens County GA but wrong on all other counts. No one named Cicero or Cisero Taylor served in any U.S. command during the war. There was no 1st Georgia (U.S.) Regiment, but there was a 1st Georgia (U.S.) Battalion organized during the final months of the war. Two men named Taylor joined this command, Hugh and Louis, both age eighteen at enlistment. Your Cicero Taylor was age thirty-three in 1860. He appears on the 1864 register of men eligible for militia service, exempt by reason of having furnished a substitute in Confederate service. Taylor had just become eligible as the Confederate Congress abolished that exemption in December 1863.

Where are you getting your information?
