Thanks George and Alan! From the available information, it may be summarized that McNair was wounded in the left shoulder by a minie ball during the charge of BGen J. B. Gordon's brigade against the Union 11th Corps on the afternoon of 1 July 1863, and, being carried back in the wagons on the retreat that began 4 July, was among the wounded who were captured by the Union cavalry in the gap near Boonesboro, MD. Carried to Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD by 6 July, he succumbed to his wounds around 10 a.m. on 25 July, with an autopsy performed soon afterwards by Assistant Surgeon Adams. The following day, 26 July 1863, McNair was laid to rest in Mount Olivet cemetery (grave 209). Does this timeline sound reasonable?
