My g-g-grandfather, William J. Chapman, has a marker on his grave indicating that he was a member of the 1st GA Infantry. As with many CSA units, there are several regiments or battalions with this designation. After not finding him on the muster rolls of any of them. I consulted the Soldiers and Sailors site. I found him in here- 1st Regiment, Georgia Light Duty Men. Never heard of this one before. Does anyone have any info on this unit or their service. Thanks.
