Re: Court Martial
In Response To: Court Martial ()

John,

Here's the text of the general order, but I couldn't find the decisions of the court:

Hd Qrs Dept of Northern Va

February 25th 1863
General Orders

No 27

I. A General Court Martial is hereby appointed to meet at the camp of
Colquitt’s Brigade on the 2d day of March 1863, at 10 o’clock A.M. or as soon thereafter
as practicable for the trial of such prisoners as may be brought before it.

Detail for the Court:
Captain J. N. Dorsey 27th Ga Regt

“ H. T. Kennon 23d “ “

“ B. J. Russell 6th “ “

“ W. H. Douglass 28th “ “
Lieut J. D. Franklin 28th “ “

“ W. H. Harper 27th “ “

" John McGee 19th “ “
2d Lieut S. W Nolen 6th Ga Regt, Judge Advocate

A larger number of members could not be convened without
manifest injury to the service. Should any member be absent the Court will
nevertheless proceed to business provided the number be not less than the
minimum prescribed by law. The Court will sit without regard to days or hours.

II. A Court of Inquiry to consist of Lt Col Frank Hampton, 2d S.C.
Cavalry; Major W. G. Conner, Jeff Davis Legion, & Captain Thomas Ruffin, 1st N.C.
Cavalry, and 1st Lieut James L. Henry, 1st N.C. Cavalry, Judge Advocate, will assemble
at Gordonsville on the 2d day of March 1863 or as soon thereafter as practicable for
the purpose of investigating facts relative to the depredations said to have been
committed by the command of Major W. A. Morgan, of the 1st Va. Cavalry in Albemarle
County Va. The Court will summon witnesses, keep a record of its proceedings and
express an opinion thereon.

By command of General Lee
