Thank you for taking the time to answer. I don't think this is the same man. The National Archives have sent me Military Records for two different John Porters but neither one is him. My John would only have been 17/18. I have the documentaion when he joined up with his brothers but apparently he never made it to Richmond to Muster In. He just disappears of the records for the 21st after joining. I'm convinced he died/deserted on the way. Again thank you for taking the time to try and help.
