Only one Bush in the 40th Georgia Regiment, John W. Bush of Co. "G". Enlisted March 4, 1862, Haralson County GA. Paroled at Vicksburg MS, July 6, 1863, and did not return to duty after his furlough expired, Aug. 23, 1863. Received as a deserter at Chattanooga TN, Oct. 31, 1864, and took the oath of allegiance to the United States.

A man named John Butler enrolled in Co. "B" of this regiment. Perhaps there was some confusoin regarding his name.
